Pebble Beach has been the site of numerous major golf tournaments, including the annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, the 1972, '82, '92 and 2000 U.S. Open Championships.

Pebble Beach was ranked the No. 1 Public Course in America by Golf Digest in 2005.

Hole #5, a 166-yard par 3, was redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1996 to play along the cliffs, with the new tee placed behind the green on hole #4.
