Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Course

Described by Bobby Jones as "the St. Andrews of United States golf," Pinehurst No. 2 ranks among the most storied courses of the world. This great course was designed by Scottish course designer Donald Ross in 1901. Because Ross lived at Pinehurst for 48 years, he was able to lavish continual attention on No. 2, and it is considered by most to be his finest work.

Pinehurst No. 2 features small, sloping greens, deep bunkers, loose sandy soil and rough accents of native wiregrass. It was the site of the 99th U.S. Open in 1999.

In 2004, only 16 U.S. courses garnered the coveted 5-star rating from Golf Digest. Pinehurst No. 2 has achieved this distinction since these ratings began in 1992 and is the only course in North Carolina to be designated with the 5-star rating.

Pinehurst No. 2 recently played host to the 105th U.S. Open in June of 2005.
