Valderrama Golf Course

Valderrama is a Spanish masterpiece, with no hole of less than championship quality. The wonderful fact about Valderrama, however, is that it can be fully enjoyed by players of all handicaps, thanks to the genius of Robert Trent Jones, Sr., whom many consider the leading golf architect of his day.

Course Information

  • Course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., opened in 1974
  • 75 rating/142 slope
  • 6974 total yards from championship tees
  • 18 holes, Par 71

The course was re-designed in 1985 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, transforming it into the no. 1 golf club in Europe, as named by Golf World.

When the course was first built in 1974, it was called 'Sotogrande New'. In 1981, its name was changed again to 'Las Aves'. Finally, in 1984, it was re-named 'Valderrama', after the ancient estate on which the land is situated.

Valderrama has played host to the Volvo Masters, the Ryder Cup, & the American Express World Golf Championships, among others. The course still remains the only club ever to have hosted the Ryder Cup outside its traditional homelands, USA and Britain.
